Extruding Shapes To make a 3d character.

To start off extruding a shape is when you select a face of it and increase or
decrease all of its attributes. Say for example i wanted to make an arm,
I would of select a cube and extruded the bottom face to make a long cube which eventually can
be smoothed down to make a arm. You would repeat this process twice in order to make two arms.
And that is just a quick example of how to extrude into shapes. In my opinion extruding shapes to
make a 3d object is the best way to make a model as there is so much variety in the shapes you
can use and there is no limits to what you can do with them.

Polygon modeling.

In the maya software polygon modeling is normally the favorite way to go when making a ed character as the whole idea of it is that you can add faces edges and vertices to say a face where you need a bit more detail and just a smoothed down cube. For example the dimples on someones face is very difficult to do by extruding things as you need the detail and the little bits that make polygon modeling the favorite way to model 3d characters.

Polygons are fundamental building blocks of miya you can't really make a lot without them.
Say for example a cylinder a sphere and a cube.





In order to successfully create a 3d model character in maya a technique known as sub division can often be used as a main tool for this.
It works in a way a little different to polygon modeling and 3d extruding.
It works by creating subdivisions on a big object. Say for example you had created a face
but it had no detail on it. You would create a sub division normally set to 4 and this would make
it so you could extrude these sub divisions in order to add detail to the face. To access the subdivisions
tab you need to go to channel box and set the subdivisions to 4 but you can change it depending
on how many you need.


ANIMATION/ MOTION GENERATION

Rigging.

Rigging is a way for the user that make sure that animation gets done a little bit quicker. We knows this as normally in animation keyframing you have to select every little bit to make sure it all works ok nad runs smoothly. However with rigging you create bones on the skeleton and it is all based on the skeleton of a human being. So you can insert bones and animate them and this is easier than keyframing as you can select an area not just one singular thing. To add bones to a rig you need to go to a front pov then select the joint tool. This should let you select where you want to create your bones.
Motion capture.

Motion capture is when the actor has to wear a full latex/spandex suit covered in markers.
These markers help the camera track movement. Hence why they are all over the body as then it
helps the camera follow the person even if there is a lot of movement. After this the footage gets given
to the animators to put some final edits together to make sure the  movement is smooth.
Motion capture works in a way where you get the footage from the camera and actually put it on a
computer and the movements created by the actors can be mirrored and edited to make the motion
look very smooth.





.Keyframes / keying

Keyframes are when you select an object / character in maya and you position it and save the
keyframe. Then after you have done this you can move this character say forwards.
To do this you would have to go to the 100th keyframe and move your character forwards and then
save it. Once you have done this you would have a smooth movement of a character in maya.
Keyframes are used for character animation but very simple animation like looking up and down
and running backwards and forwards


INTENDED APPLICATION.





Film

In the modern industry of film and tv vfx is almost a necessity. We know this from how well action
films do nowadays these characters movements and the actual character cannot be created with vfx.
Take the avengers. A massive hit worldwide and one of their main characters the hulk is made with
vfx. The actor mark ruffalo match movements using motion capture and then they track these
movements onto the vfx created hulk


Animation.

3D Characters are often used in animations a lot of the time now. A particular part of animation
industry is the children's shows. For example star wars the clone wars is a show where every
character is based of a 3d model as this animation would make it more like the film and a bit more
realistic. These sorts of animations use subdivision modeling to create that smooth surface to give
the characters that extra bit of detail.


Games.

3D Characters are often used in every modern game but my favorite game to use as an example
would be pokemon. I love the way the characters are designed and the pokemon environment.
I think it is a masterclass. It works so well for a game like pokemon as it needs that 3d detail
where you can see that your favorite pokemon has a blue spot on his head.
Those silly things is what attaches you to a character and you need the details otherwise there
just seen as a character not a friend. The 3d modeling in this game make sure that you can change
cloths gender and hairstyle whenever you feel the need to
